WESTERNGECO ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACT WITH STATOIL ASA
01 June 2004 - Schlumberger

WesternGeco announced today that Statoil ASA has awarded the company a contract for seismic data acquisition of a 3D/4D survey in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The Q-Technology vessel Western Pride, towing 10 x 5000-meter cables with a spread of 675 meters, will use its proprietary Q-Marine single-sensor marine seismic system to acquire data over the Visund field in the Tampen area offshore Norway commencing this month.

The Visund project, covering 640 square kilometers, will establish a new Q-Marine baseline survey suitable for future monitoring of fluid movement in the reservoir.

'We chose WesternGeco Q-Technology for this baseline survey because we expect the high-resolution Q survey to provide enhanced knowledge of the field for asset management and reduced development risk,' said Erik Håvarstein, geophysical manager, Statoil ASA.

'The high repeatability and the superior resolution of Q-Marine surveys make this technology applicable for reservoir monitoring,' said Roar Bekker, manager, WesternGeco Europe. 'Also, the Q-Marine active steering will minimize undershoot required around the Visund platform.'

Q is the WesternGeco proprietary suite of advanced seismic technologies for enhanced reservoir location, description and management.
