SCHLUMBERGER AWARDED GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY CONTRACT BY AMERADA HESS
29 March 2004 - Schlumberger
| Schlumberger Information Solutions announced today that independent upstream oil and gas company Amerada Hess has selected a Schlumberger global connectivity solution to provide a reliable and secure communications network between its offshore and land-based facilities in West Africa and its offices in Aberdeen and Houston. |
Amerada Hess required voice, fax and data communications between each of their remote locations in Africa where local IT infrastructure was not present. Schlumberger established real-time remote communications using its very small aperture terminal satellite technology, and linked West Africa to the Amerada Hess Houston and Aberdeen offices with its global Secure Private Network. This solution enables highly reliable and secure two-way communications between Amerada Hess offshore oil rigs, the African land offices and other offices in the Amerada Hess network. Connectivity has been established between each of the Amerada Hess remote sites in West Africa, and from West Africa to the Aberdeen office, made possible via a satellite downlink to the Schlumberger teleport facility in Aberdeen. The Amerada Hess office in Houston links to its West African and Aberdeen locations via the Schlumberger Secure Private Network, which is based on a multi-protocol label switching backbone. MPLS technology allows faster, simpler, multi-application data transmission and reliable connectivity, as well as options for bandwidth on demand. 'With the implementation of stabilized systems designed for marine or remote use as well as fixed, land-based connectivity, Amerada Hess can now communicate in real-time with all its offices in West Africa and other locations. Supporting all global regions where oil and gas fields are explored, developed and produced, the Schlumberger global network meets the demanding requirements of the energy industry - anywhere, anytime,' said Jean-Michel Rouylou, vice president, Connectivity Services, Schlumberger.
