AXALTO DELIVERS THE BENEFITS OF PHONEBOOK BACKUP SERVICE TO BOUYGUES TELECOM CUSTOMERS
25 February 2004 - Schlumberger

Axalto, a Schlumberger company, today announced the first commercial implementation of the Simsave solution for fully automated phonebook backup at Bouygues Telecom. The 'SOS Répertoire SIM' service - integrating Simsave - is a key element of Bouygues Telecom's strategy for enhanced customer service with a range of intelligent solutions, which cater to the evolving needs of its subscribers.

For many mobile users, the phonebook has become an invaluable resource and one of the most essential features, providing a convenient source of personal contact information. However, this can also be extremely risky since the loss or theft of a mobile means that the contact details and numbers stored on the phone could disappear with it. For Bouygues Telecom customers, this is no longer an issue.

The Simsave applet is deployed on all SIM cards and detects any changes to the phonebook, then sends them securely via SMS (short message service) to the Simsave platform. On replacing a lost or stolen phone, the user simply calls the customer care number of Bouygues Telecom and his/her SIM phonebook can be fully restored.

The solution meets Bouygues Telecom's requirement of a transparent service needing no subscriber intervention. It has been co-developed with Canadian company Simbit, award winner of the 2002 Axalto SIMagine contest.

'The Simsave solution is an invaluable addition to our service portfolio, enabling us to provide this additional protection for our subscribers against the loss of their phonebook information,' commented Philippe Schild, products director at Bouygues Telecom.

'The launch of Simsave is a further demonstration of the strength of Axalto in pioneering innovative SIM-based solutions which deliver real value to operators' said Philippe Vrignaud, director mobile communications at Axalto. 'We are delighted to announce the installation of Simsave at Bouygues Telecom, which combines innovation with immediate and tangible benefits for all its subscribers. Simsave also enables end users to migrate to higher capacity SIM cards required for 3G services without the inconvenience of losing their SIM phonebook information'.
