SIM-BASED RING TONES APPLICATION FOR MOBILE USERS
25 February 2004 - Schlumberger
| Axalto, formerly known as Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, today announced the launch of Melody - its SIM-based ring tones application for mobile users. Innovative and easy-to-use, Melody leverages on the established popularity of ring tones, enabling users to build their own ring tone collection and share it with friends in a few clicks while offering operators an invaluable ability to strengthen customer loyalty. |
Based on Java SIMToolKit technology, the Melody application allows users to download, store and categorize ring tones on the SIM card, allowing them to build up their own ring tone albums. Since the albums are SIM-based, users can change handsets and still preserve their ring tone collection. A unique format converter detects change in handset and automatically converts the tones to the appropriate format. Combined with an in-built contact manager, the automatic format converter allows users to forward the stored ring tones to friends, all in a matter of a few clicks. From the operator standpoint, Melody enables a convincing loyalty proposition to their young subscribers - by way of a personal, handset-independent ring tone collection. Capitalizing on the storage capabilities of today's SIM cards, operators are also able to provide pre-loaded sets of tones as a gift to subscribers. In addition, the forwarding and in-built billing features of Melody augur well for increased revenue from content distribution. 'The innovative features offered by Melody are a precious tool for operators looking to enhance their service offer in order to strengthen customer loyalty and build revenue,' commented Philippe Vrignaud, director mobile communications at Axalto. 'Axalto, with its strong traditions of innovation, has always been at the forefront in pioneering SIM-based applications that help operators attract customers, boost revenue and differentiate from competition.'
