SAGEM NEW CONTRACT BY DÉLÉGATION GÉNÉRALE POUR L'ARMEMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF BATTLEFIELD MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
13 May 2004 - Sagem Communication

SAGEM, at the head a team formed with Capgemini France, has been awarded the SITEL BMS contract by the French procurement agency, Délégation Générale pour l'Armement. This contract covers the development, production and deployment of battlefield management systems (SITEL) for French Army units at sub-regimental levels.

This programme is a major element of the battlefield digitisation plan led by the French DGA. It will widely establish the use of tactical information systems at elementary unit levels (sections, platoons, etc.), which is considered a key factor for superiority in AirLand combat.

Under the SITEL programme, about 4500 vehicles of various types will be fitted with a PC-based terminal to meet the operational command and control requirements of infantry armoured and engineering units, cavalry units and their associated logistic support units.

Each terminal will display the tactical situation, updated in a short time, on a digital map background. It will communicate and share information through radio links with the regimental command and control system and will provide to the platoon leader and subordinates all suitable data allowing fast and appropriate decision-making.

SAGEM brings its experience of military applications and will be in charge of the major part of the SITEL BMS development and series production. Capgemini brings its experience of the civil domain which, in particular, will be used to support the system's fielding and appraisal by the users.
