SAGEM SELECTED TO DEVELOP OPERATING SYSTEM OF VITALE HEALTH INSURANCE CARD
26 April 2004 - Sagem Communication
| Following an international call for tenders launched by the French GIE-SESAM VITALE in February 2003, SAGEM has been selected to develop the operating system (Mask) of the new Vitale health insurance card. |
SAGEM's selection confirms its very strong position in the field of highly secure mask development. These cards will have a built-in cryptoprocessor implementing cryptographic mechanisms based on public keys, considerably reinforcing the security of operations such as electronic authentication and signatures. This success follows on from last year's successful development of the next generation of EMV DDA bank cards, which will be deployed in France in the 2nd half of 2004. 'This development represents an important stage in the deployment programme of a new generation of Vitale cards as soon as 2006 ; highly secure, complying with the new Identification, Authentication and Signature standards, open to evolution, Vitale 2 will thus meet the new requirements of the health and welfare field', explains Jacques de Varax, General Manager of GIE-SESAM VITALE. 'This compliance with the IAS standards is necessary for the development of e-services and guarantees the interoperability between the cards issued by government and the terminals', specifies Jacques Sauret, Manager of ADAE (Agence pour le Développement de l'Administration Electronique), the french e-government agency. 'SAGEM will bring to this development process its expertise and its know-how in terms of software mask creation, cryptography and electronic payment applications, areas in which SAGEM's leadership is recognised worldwide', emphasises Jean-Paul Jainsky, Managing Director of SAGEM's Security Division.
