ATMEL CORPORATION & SAGEM MONETEL ANNOUNCED LAUNCH OF SAGEM MONETEL EFT 30 SECURE PAYMENT TERMINAL
18 November 2003 - Sagem Communication
| SAGEM Monetel and Atmel Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced today the launch of the SAGEM Monetel EFT 30 secure payment terminal and its PPR 30 Pin-Pad designed to conform to the industry's most stringent security requirements (EMV, PED (Pin Entry Device) from VISA, etc.). Aimed at the world market for card payment, they accept all current payment schemes and card technologies (smart cards, magnetic stripe cards, etc.). Their major advantage is their speed of transaction processing as they carry out the required security checks in the shortest possible time. They are an ideal solution for EMV migration. |
These terminals are built around the AT91RM3400 and AT91RM9200 ARM-based micro-controllers developed in partnership with Atmel. These feature-rich systems-on-chip focus on security, integration and performance, as well as cost-effectiveness. Implemented on 0.18-micron CMOS technology, they capitalize on the synergy between the applications expertise on the part of SAGEM Monetel and the system level integration capability of Atmel. These two devices represent the start of a family of jointly-developed products targeting highly-secured point-of-sales terminals. Joel Chevillard, Managing Director of SAGEM Monetel commented 'Atmel is an ideal partner in the fields of security and performance. Our fruitful cooperation with them has given us complete satisfaction. There is no doubt that we will continue this cooperation with further innovative products.' Alfredo Vadillo, Atmel's director for ASICs and ASSPs, commented, 'this partnership is another concrete result of our policy of close engagement with customers, in order to optimize the contribution of the two parties. It has resulted in two micro-controllers that are in high-volume production for SAGEM Monetel, and that are now Atmel catalog products.' SAGEM Monetel, a subsidiary of Groupe SAGEM is specialised in electronic payment solutions integrating leading edge technologies, such as GSL, GPRS, biometrics, secure transmissions, etc. Founded in 1984, Atmel Corporation is headquartered in San Jose, California with manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe.
