EUROPEAN COMMITTEE'S 6TH RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME CHOSE SAGEM TO TENDER 1ST INVITATION TO PILOT SAFEE PROJECT

SAGEM has been chosen within the frame of the first invitation to tender of the European Committee's 6th Research and Development Programme, as the pilot of the SAFEE project (the amount of the 37 million euros contract will be allocated to the various sections of the programme).

The SAFEE project or 'Security of Aircraft in the Future European Environment' has been created to answer the security requirements of civil aircraft as regards terrorist attacks (hijacking, etc.). A total amount of 31 companies (including 9 innovative SMEs, laboratories and universities take part in the programme. Leader of the project since its creation, SAGEM will continue to manage it until the conclusion of the researches, expected by the end of 2007.

SAFEE includes a research section on new sensors, a behaviour analysis of people on-board section, a section concerning the protection against terrorists taking over the plane, and finally a communications and data transfer protection and securing section.

The Broadband Communication Business Group also deploys a Europe-wide network of subsidiaries, called National Sales Organization (NSO), that distributes Sagem brand products to all major European retailers. Sagem has signed a number of agreements with OEMs, meaning that Sagem products are used by the world’s leading brands and most European operators.
