AGREEMENT SIGN BY SAGEM & COGNITEC SYSTEMS TO ACCESS ALL FACE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY
13 May 2003 - Sagem Communication

SAGEM and Cognitec Systems announced today the signature of a strategic agreement by which SAGEM will have access to all aspects of the face recognition technology developed by Cognitec. SAGEM will thus be able to adapt and integrate face recognition in its biometrics-based identification systems. According to this agreement, the two partners will co-operate in their R & D efforts.

The world leader in fingerprint identification systems, SAGEM, pursues its strategy towards the construction of a multi-biometrics offer (fingerprint, iris, and face) for identity management systems dedicated to the security of states (criminal enquiries, ID cards, driver's license cards, border control, etc.).

' SAGEM is probably the sole industrial actor with a unique threefold experience in the integration of very large-scale biometric identification systems, a terminal and card production capacity, and an exceptionally high standard biometrics research and development activity. This agreement opens up an important new sales channel for us', said Alfredo Herrera, Cognitec Systems Managing Director.

' Following the agreement with Iridian, last February, this strategic alliance perfectly complements our multi-biometrics offer and makes it without equivalent on the market ', said Jean-Paul Jainsky, Managing Director of SAGEM's Security Division. ' Cognitec delivered the best performance of all participating face recognition systems in the Facial Recognition Vendor Test 2002 (FRVT 2002) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. This did not surprise us as the constant evaluation made in our R & D centers had enabled us to identify the exceptional quality of Cognitec' algorithms'.

About Cognitec Systems GmbH: Cognitec Systems, based in Dresden, Germany, is known for the leading recognition performance of its FaceVACS technology. Cognitec's software experts have been developing face recognition technology since 1995. Industry and government customers use this software in applications like physical access control, border control, passport issuance, and video surveillance.
