SUCCES OF FIRST TRIAL FLIGHTS OF TACTICAL SDTI UAV
27 January 2003 - Sagem Communication

The first trial flights of the tactical SDTI UAV have been carried out with success at the end of 2002, in the military camp of Mourmelon, in the French region of Champagne. Part of the SAGEM SPERWER range, SDTI is the future tactical UAV system of the French Army. It is meant to replace CRECERELLE used since 1995 and prepare the ground for the MCMM program (multi-payload, multi-mission), planned by 2003-2008 Defence Spending Plan.

The trials have permitted to validate all of the system's operational functions and the UAV flight envelope under harsh meteorological conditions, thus proving its 'all weather' capability. The high level of performance in target observation and localisation measured during these trial flights confirms the adequacy of the system to the future intelligence and target acquisition missions of the French Army.

The success of the trial flights and the reliability of the first standardised devices show the industrial and technical maturity of the SPERWER system, which has been selected by four other European countries. It contributes to meet the very short realisation deadlines of the French program. According to the schedule, the first SDTIs will be delivered mid-2003.
