Arcom today unveiled a simple and ready-to-run development kit featuring the QNX realtime platform (RTP). The kit comes with QNX technology pre-loaded onto the flash-based drive of an Arcom Single Board Computer (SBC). 'We have taken the time to match hardware and software so that the engineer can spend their time developing application code and not worry about the hardware platform and OS working together,' states Frank Pellitta, vice president of sales and marketing at Arcom. Based on Arcom's SBC-GXm SBC, the development kit was created with a particular focus on the QNX RTP. The SBC-GXm is a 233MHz Pentium-performance processor board with standard PC interfaces, including flash disk, video, Ethernet, USB, touchscreen, audio, serial ports, and a PC/104-Plus expansion interface. The kit provides all the necessary peripheral interface devices to build an embedded QNX application. The QNX RTOS and the QNX Photon® microGUI (core components of the QNX RTP), as well as the Voyager™ browser, come pre-loaded on the Arcom SBC. Also included is a full QNX realtime platform CD and a non-commercial development license. In addition, the kit contains a PS/2 mouse, connection cables for VGA or flat-panel displays, serial cable, +5V power supply, and sample code. An optional NEC 6.5' color LCD module is available. 'We're working closely with communication technology providers like Arcom to offer 'one-stop' solutions based on the QNX realtime platform,' said Linda Campbell, vice president of strategic alliances at QNX. 'With these new Arcom kits, QNX developers get a jump start on their embedded projects - no need to deal with low-level board issues. You can start prototyping and developing right out of the box.' About the QNX Realtime Platform. A 20-year leader in the embedded market, QNX Software Systems recently launched the QNX realtime platform, the first self-hosted, graphical platform for embedded developers. Available free for non-commercial use at http://get.qnx.com, the platform features a POSIX, SMP microkernel, full memory protection, transparent networking, a customizable and embeddable GUI, Internet and multimedia technologies, driver development kits, and more.
