Arcom have now released a version of the popular SBC-GX1 Development Kits configured for a Class 2 implementation of Windows NT Embedded. The operating system has been pre-built with the drivers to support the on board graphics, Ethernet and compact flash drive to allow engineers to evaluate and demonstrate the use of their NT Embedded applications on the Arcom platform. Microsoft Windows NT Embedded is built on the proven NT 4.0 code base and is designed as a modular operating system for systems with and without the use of a display. It offers the security, manageability and sophisticated networking capabilities for medium and high-end applications. The ability to deploy fixed implementations with and without display functionality means reduced license cost and reduced field support and maintenance. The Arcom Development Kit is supplied with a fully licensed Class 2 NT Embedded image installed on a 128Mbytes compact Flash card. The Kit also includes the software drivers, cables and documentation to support the on-board features of Arcom's SBC-GX1. The Development Kit CD contains a backup copy of the NT Embedded image and the SBC-GX1 driver components for Component Designer. A new operating system image can be quickly installed onto the compact flash via the Ethernet port using the supplied Ethernet cable and download utility. The kit includes an Arcom SBC-GX1 processor board based on the Pentium performance National Semiconductor Geode GX1 300MHz processor. The board has 64MB DRAM which can be expanded to up to 256MB, giving the embedded systems designer plenty of headroom. A 5V power supply module includes adaptors for US, UK and European sockets. Peripherals include Compact Flash socket, 4 high speed serial ports, parallel port, keyboard adaptor, a standard PCI slot, PS/2 mouse, watchdog timer, on-board 10/100 BaseTx Ethernet controller and IDE drive controller. An optional 6.5' NEC colour LCD is available.
