VDS NAMES PLATINUM & GOLD EMBEDDED BOARD VENDORS
09 May 2005 - Venture Development Corporation

Venture Development Corporation, an independent market research and consulting firm, has named its year 2005 'Platinum' and 'Gold' vendor rating award recipients.

These rankings are driven by VDC's research into the markets for merchant computer boards for embedded and real-time applications. Ratings were derived through the use of an impartial model, proprietary to VDC, which measures customer experiences with these firms.

First, users identified their most important non-technical criteria (such as availability/delivery and price) when selecting a vendor. Next, they used these criteria to rate up to five vendors* from which they had purchased embedded boards. This data was then aggregated and weighted to reflect the relative importance of the various criteria to produce a numerical score for each identified vendor.

'Platinum' status was awarded to the ten identified vendors achieving the highest score. 'Gold' status was awarded to the next twenty of these vendors (ranked 11-30).

'Because our model is based upon user perceptions, vendors achieving Platinum or Gold status may feel comfortable that their business practices and policies are highly regarded by their customers,' said Eric Gulliksen, Practice Director of Venture Development's Embedded Hardware Research Group. 'Other vendors may wish to pay more attention to these factors.'
