ARCOM EXPANDS DEVELOPMENT KIT LINE FOR MICROSOFT EMBEDDED PRODUCTS
01 February 2001 - Arcom
| Arcom announces new Development Kits for Microsoft Windows NT Embedded 4.0 and Windows CE 3.0 for embedded systems designers. Both Development Kits are based on Arcom's popular SBC-GXm Single Board Computer (SBC) offering EBX compatibility with a host of multi-media functionality. |
The SBC-GXm Embedded NT Development Kit contains a complete set of components to enable the rapid development of new Windows NT Embedded 4.0-based applications. It is offered in several pre-configured builds to allow engineers to concentrate on application development from day one. The options are carefully designed to support Workstation products (Class 2) or Server systems (Class 4). The development kits are fully licensed and ready to run straight out of the box. It really is that simple. The Development Kit CD includes several pre-built implementations of the operating system to give you maximum flexibility. Arcom also provides all the components definitions for the SBC-GXm Single Board Computer to allow developers to use Microsoft Target Designer and Component Builder to generate fully customized implementations of the Windows NT Embedded 4.0 operating system. Windows NT Embedded 4.0 accelerates the engineer's ability to deliver an embedded solution by providing powerful authoring tools and capabilities, thus reducing time to market. 'The ability to quickly and easily bring to market innovative devices is of utmost importance to embedded developers,' said Keith White, director of marketing for the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. 'Arcom's new developer kits for Windows NT Embedded 4.0 and Windows CE 3.0 will help enable this by allowing developers to focus their efforts on developing rich applications for their Windows Powered devices.' The SBC-GXm Windows CE 3.0 Development Kit contains the Windows CE 3.0 kernel pre-loaded into an on-board flash based drive that resides on the SBC. The kit contains a complete set of components to enable the rapid development of new Windows CE-based devices. 'We have taken the time to match hardware and software so that the engineer can spend their time developing application code and not worry about the hardware platform and OS working together,' states Frank Pellitta, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Arcom. 'Windows CE 3.0 is a highly componentized embedded operating system for 32-bit connected client devices that demand rich applications and Internet services. The cost point, low DRAM and Flash requirements, and Windows origin make Windows CE an attractive option for embedded design.' The Development Kits provide the software drivers, cables and documentation to support all on-board features of Arcom's SBC-GXm. Also included are; a PS/2 mouse, compact power supply, and connection cables for interfacing the SBC-GXm to a VGA-CRT display. An optional NEC 6.5' TFT color LCD module is available. Arcom's SBC-GXm, is based on the Pentium performance National Geode-GXm 233MHz processor. The SBC-GXm has been designed for a wide range of embedded control applications with particular focus for use in harsh environments such as transportation, automation, and communication applications. The SBC features a video interface capable of driving high-resolution modes on CRT, flat panel and includes on-board analog resistive touchscreen interface and Soundblaster audio capabilities. Standard peripheral I/O ports supported by the SBC-GXm include PC/104-Plus header, dual USB connectors, 10/100Base-TX Ethernet, four fast serial ports, LPT parallel printer port, FDD & IDE HDD interfaces. Standard PC type mouse and keyboard ports are supplied via PS/2 mini DIN connectors.
