Globalization of Business - Many industries continue to distribute various portions of their business to diverse global locations. KVM Switches and Serial Console Servers address the problem of accessing devices and servers located across the world from any remote location.

Spread of IT to Remote Branches - Mid-sized organizations in a broad range of industries (such as bank, retail, and fast food) are utilizing, and in some cases, justifying the purchase of, KVM Switch and Serial Console Server technologies to access, troubleshoot, and manage their servers remotely.

Server Consolidation - Many companies are using many low-end servers instead of purchasing one powerful, but extremely expensive unit. KVM Switches and Serial Console Servers provide centralized access to these cost-effective server farms, making them more practical to handle.

'IP-based KVM switches will drive the most growth in the KVM Switch market through 2007. Declining prices are attracting customers of all types, from branch sites to large enterprises, to adopt digital solutions for their server management', stated VDC Analyst, Spyros Photopoulos. 'KVM over IP is becoming the access technology of choice for enterprises and consumers looking to monitor or control computers/servers from remote locations.'

VDC also examined key trends in the Serial Console Server market. Photopoulos comments, 'Serial Console Servers offer a new level of security for remotely accessing servers and other IT devices. Designed for power users familiar with command line interfaces, Serial Console Servers can drastically save enterprise costs associated with network downtimes. Sales for these devices are expected to jump in the data center and large enterprise space.'
