On the supply side, several camps of vendors are vying to take control (or greater control) of the supply side of the telecom core infrastructure market. IMS creates opportunities for many of these vendors to repackage their existing products as IMS upgrades and convergence products. For others non-traditional telecom vendors, IMS creates a new opportunity for a disruptive market entry.

The IMS architecture can be applied to nearly any kind of carrier network today. There is a great deal of uncertainty on the carrier demand side on how quickly and to what extent operators will adopt the technology. These adoption strategies will have an obvious effect on the short-term market opportunity for IMS vendor and system integrator communities.

VDC's stakeholder map defines primary IMS suppliers, integrators, and user groups; identifies issues and objectives driving each group's investment in IMS, and details how IMS adoption will benefit each of these stakeholders.
