ABB TECHNOLOGY HELPS BOOST NORWAY'S GAS EXPORTS
25 August 2004 - ABB (Power Technologies)

ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, said today it has been awarded two orders totaling $28 million from energy company Norsk Hydro for automation technologies to support the giant Ormen Lange gas field off the coast of Norway.

ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, said today it has been awarded two orders totaling $28 million from energy company Norsk Hydro for automation technologies to support the giant Ormen Lange gas field off the coast of Norway.

ABB will provide automation, safety, and information management systems to help control and improve the flow of compressed natural gas through a 1,200 kilometer-long pipeline to the United Kingdom.

For the accompanying contract, ABB engineers will conduct configuration and application programming in cooperation with the highly-specialized Ormen Lange centralized engineering team. When the pipeline becomes operational in 2007, about 20 percent of Norway's natural gas exports will be delivered through the link.

'ABB's advanced automation technologies are playing a vital role in developing the second largest gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf,' said Dinesh Paliwal, head of ABB's Automation Technologies division. 'We are delighted that our long-term relationship with Norsk Hydro has led to this significant new activity.'

The current work, based on Hydro frame agreements, represents ABB's second major award for the Ormen Lange project in three months. In May, ABB announced a $22 million order to provide electrical drive systems for an onshore gas processing plant that will support the gas field.
