ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won an order worth $22 million from the state-run utility Kahramaa to supply equipment and commission three turnkey substations along a new 132-kilometer transmission line being built from Ras Laffan to Dukhan.

'Qatar is growing quickly and its development must be supported by a swift upgrade of the electrical infrastructure,' said Peter Smits, head of Power Technologies division. 'ABB is recognized throughout the region for fast delivery and the outstanding quality of its products and systems.'

ABB will undertake construction, assembly and commissioning of 132 KV and 66 KV gas-insulated switchgear, 132/66 KV 92 MVA power transformers, an 11 KV switchgear lineup, together with telecommunications, protection and DCS equipment.

ABB's consortium partner in the $45 million project is Power Transmission Limited of India, which is building the power line.

ABB currently has ongoing projects in almost all countries in the Gulf region, including an order to supply power to the 'Palm' project off the coast of Dubai, featuring two man-made, palm-shaped islands which will be home to 50 luxury hotels, exclusive apartments and numerous recreational facilities with space for about 5,000 residents.
