ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won an order worth $22 million to supply equipment for the extension of an existing and for a new substation in Brazil. The order was awarded in December 2004 by Eletrosul Centrais Elétricas and will increase the power supply provided by the substations of Caxias do Sul and Nova Santa Rita, both in Rio Grande do Sul state. 'The order confirms the pickup in demand in the power sector in Brazil,' said Peter Smits, head of ABB's Power Technologies division. 'We are pleased to support Eletrosul with state-of-the-art technology manufactured in and for Brazil.' The equipment to be supplied by ABB will be used in the extension of the existing substation at Caixas do Sul and to complete a new substation at Nova Santa Rita do Sul. The delivery includes seven transformers of 224 MVA and 550 kV, eight 550 kV circuit breakers and 14 current transformers of 242 kV. The 550 kV circuit breakers will be supplied from ABB's factory in Ludvika, Sweden, the rest of the equipment will be manufactured in ABB's Guarulhos factory in Brazil. Delivery time will be in 11 months.
