PROPULSION, AUTOMATION AND POWER SYSTEMS SELECTED BY LEADING SHIPBUILDERS
01 November 2005 - ABB (Power Technologies)

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today it has signed contracts worth some $80 million to supply its Azipod propulsion, electrical power and automation systems for 14 new marine vessels.

'We are delighted by the continuing confidence of shipbuilders in both Europe and Asia,' said Dinesh Paliwal, head of ABB's Automation Technologies division. 'Our technology is helping to increase operating efficiency and save energy among the world's growing fleet of marine vessels.'

Three 14 Megawatt Azipod units, one fixed and two maneuverable for Royal Caribbean's third Freedom Class vessel to be built at Aker Finnyards in Finland. ABB will also provide a marine power plant consisting of six main generators, main switchboard, four bow thruster motors and 18 transformers.

The supply to Aker Langsten of electrical propulsion systems for one anchor handling tug supply vessel, with option for one additional vessel for Norway's Island Offshore.

The delivery for Gdansk Ship Repair Yard, Remontowa SA of Poland of complete electrical propulsion systems for four ice breaking emergency evacuation vessels to be owned by AGIP for operation in the Caspian Sea.

The supply of complete electrical propulsion systems to Ulstein Verft AS of Norway for two innovative Px105 platform supply vessels for delivery to Bourbon Offshore Norway.

A contract with Rolls Royce for complete electrical propulsion systems for two of its new Rolls Royce 776 design platform supply vessels, built for Island Offshore.
Contracts from Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. for four new vessels with options for two additional vessels. ABB will supply state-of-the-art diesel electric propulsion systems for two 155,000 m3 liquefied natural gas carriers for AP Möller. ABB will supply electrical propulsion, power generation and distribution systems for one drill ship plus one option vessel for Stena Drilling Ltd of Sweden, as well as a deep-water semi-submersible drilling rig plus one option vessel for Eastern Drilling. All vessels will be built by Samsung in Korea.
