Hans van der Spek of FME, Netherlands, the chairman of the round-table 'Strategies for improving supply chain performance', summarizes: 'The session on the demand chain navigator reflected the interest of the attendees in searching for answers to the growing dynamics in our market. Due to this ever increasing turbulence, time-to market, flexibility and reduced cycle times are of paramount importance. The group discussed the contribution of supply chain management tools towards increasing flexibility.'

Dr. Svetan Ratchev, Reader in Precision Engineering at the University of Nottingham, chaired the round-table on the European Precision Assembly Forum EPAF: 'The round table concluded that the industry is not maximising the effect of the publicly funded research in Europe. It was agreed that there was a need of a coordinated action in the domain of precision assembly to provide better information on the latest technological developments, to better link industrial companies with academic and research organisations and to actively set up the precision assembly research agenda in Europe. A number of industrial concerns were expressed regarding IPR protection in EU funding projects and the need of better understanding by industry of the funding mechanisms in the EU research programmes'. Ample space was given to networking opportunities, such as the Swiss Night Out! on top of the Rinerhorn mountain. The next EFAC Conference is scheduled to take place in January 2007 in Davos.
