DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICES MAKES THIS COMPANY AGILE
27 February 2001 - Agile Systems
| Agile Systems Inc. has developed a series of electronic control devices that will strengthen its foothold in the emerging fuel-cell market, the Waterloo company announced yesterday. |
Agile's new line of digital power-and-control devices are designed for 'stationary' fuelcell applications. Such applications include the small, box-like generators that can provide an alternative source of electricity and heat to individual homes. Fuel-cell units like this are expected to be available commercially in the next year or two and will go a long way to easing the power shortages experienced in California and elsewhere. Agile's device will provide fuel-cell makers with a ready made yet adaptable electronic package that provides power and control to stationary fuelcell generators. 'Digital power and control in the smallest package is our core competency and exactly what fuelcell manufacturers need,' Robert Lankin, Agile's chief executive officer, said in a news statement. Agile is negotiating with a number of potential fuel-cell partners and hopes to announce specific company names in the near future, spokeswoman Amanda Weber said. The seven-year-old company also introduced a new president yesterday. Don MacAdam has been a director on Agile's board since 1996. He has held a number of executive positions over the past 20 years, including three years as president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Burlington-based CRS Robotics Corp. in the mid 1990s. He was hired to 'spearhead plans to take Agile to the next level in terms of financial backing and corporate infrastructure,' the company said. MacAdam takes over the president's duties from Lankin, a co-founder of the privately held company who will remain as chief executive officer. Lankin has previously indicated his desire to take the company public at some point. Agile employs about 60 people, most of whom work in the company's 26,000 square-foot facility on Kumpf Drive.
