FIRST FULLY INTEGRATED EMBEDDED DEVICE SERVER SUPPORTING BOTH WIRED AND 802.11 WIRELESS ETHERNET
22 March 2004 - Lantronix

Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX), today announced its new WiPort wireless embedded device server, the first in the industry to offer both IEEE 802.11b wireless and wired Ethernet connectivity in a complete, compact integrated module. The WiPort enables original equipment manufacturers to easily add wireless connectivity to their products, significantly cutting development costs and dramatically accelerating time to market.

WiPort eliminates the complexity of adding wireless networking to a device, operating independently of a PC and providing a fully integrated solution that combines a processor, memory, 802.11b transceiver, and dual high-speed serial ports in a single module. WiPort provides both wired and wireless LAN interfaces, offering device manufacturers the flexibility to quickly incorporate networking into their products. WiPort includes a robust operating system with embedded Web- and device-server functionality, full TCP/IP protocol stack, WEP/WPA and AES security, all in a compact form factor smaller than a matchbook, measuring approximately one inch on a side.

'Lantronix led the industry with XPort, the world's first integrated, miniaturized device server. Lantronix WiPort further reinforces Lantronix's leadership position by delivering the first embedded device server with both wired and 802.11b wireless interfaces, and the highest data rates available,' said Marc Nussbaum, president and chief executive officer for Lantronix. 'Now, OEM design engineers can rapidly add wireless network connectivity to their products so customers can remotely access, monitor and manage networked devices from any location using the Internet. With WiPort's ease of installation, manufacturers in a broad range of markets, including security, industrial automation, medical, retail, building automation and others, will be able to rapidly deploy products that can support both wired and wireless connectivity, depending upon the real time needs of the user.'

WiPort's innovative and flexible platform is designed to accommodate the broadest range of OEM requirements for wireless embedded device servers. With 40 pins per module, WiPort can easily support many different interfaces, and the flexible antenna configuration enables WiPort to be placed anywhere on a board. WiPort also delivers unprecedented serial data speeds by supporting up to 920Kbaud rate, and provides more control with up to 11 simultaneous configurable I/Os, the most of any embedded wireless device server available. In addition, software developed for Lantronix's award-winning XPort is fully compatible with the WiPort platform, enabling quick and easy migration from a wired to wireless design.

'Many applications in the M2M world require the flexibility of a non-wired solution. WiPort addresses that need and should accelerate the adoption of wireless connectivity in the device networking arena,' said Glen Allmendinger, president at Harbor Research, a strategic consulting and research firm. 'Following up on its successful XPort (wired) product, Lantronix is now leading the way in wireless device networking.'
