20 October 2003 - Lantronix

Lantronix (Nasdaq: LTRX) and emWareInc., leaders in Machine to Machine technology, today announced a strategic partnership to help businesses reduce costs and increase competitiveness by using the Internet to manage remote devices and extract and analyze real time data. By bringing together the expertise of both companies, customers now have the ability to deploy a complete end-to-end device management solution in minimal time and with no up-front infrastructure investment. Virtually any organization servicing or provisioning devices can benefit from the productivity gains brought by this joint offering.

Under the terms of a Letter of Intent, the two companies will jointly develop, market and sell comprehensive device management solutions based on Lantronix device server technology and emWare DeviceView software and services. The combined Lantronix and emWare offering delivers immediate and long-range benefits to organizations with service operations by providing an easy to install, cost-effective solution to access, monitor and maintain equipment in remote locations. Key capabilities include:

Allows service technicians in a central location to determine the status and operating conditions of remote equipment located anywhere in the world.

Reduces dispatch errors by diagnosing the exact problem and determining replacement parts requirements prior to dispatching a service technician.
'The World Wide Web was the Internet's first killer application. The next key application will be connecting and managing millions of non-computer devices through the Internet. By working together we have made it easy to deploy M2M solutions and have extended our offerings to include the service necessary for a complete solution.' said Marc Nussbaum, president and chief executive officer of Lantronix. 'Partnering with emWare brings two very well respected industry players together for the purpose of creating immediate remote management total solutions.'

'Partnering with Lantronix continues emWare's strategy to provide the most powerful enterprise M2M solutions for connecting and managing remote machines and equipment,' said Michael D. Nelson, CEO of emWare, Inc. 'Now that companies are beginning to realize the enormous amounts of money that can be saved through service optimization, we are very pleased to be working along side Lantronix who shares our vision of providing the most solid and cost-effective M2M remote device management solutions available today.'

'By driving down the cost and complexity of implementing M2M remote device management solutions, Lantronix and emWare will help accelerate broader market adoption of this technology,' said Ian Barkin, co-founder and managing director of The FocalPoint Group. 'These two industry leaders are delivering a compelling solution that can dramatically reduce the cost of remotely monitoring and servicing equipment located virtually anywhere.'

M2M communication is predicted to be a $100 billion-a-year business by 2010 according to McKinsey & Co. In addition, Forrester Research predicts the Internet will extend over the next ten years to network 14 billion devices, allowing companies to track, control and manage physical assets and products.
