EMWARE'S DEVICEVIEW SERVICE TO DRIVE DOWN THE COST OF MAINTAINING EQUIPMENT IN REMOTE LOCATIONS
15 September 2004 - Lantronix

Lantronix (Nasdaq: LTRX) and emWare Inc., today announced that emWare will begin selling a new solution that integrates Lantronix' UDS Device Servers with emWare's DeviceView Remote Device Management Software, delivering a complete, secure solution for remotely monitoring, managing and controlling virtually any type of device located anywhere in the world. By enabling Lantronix UDS Device Servers to communicate with emWare's DeviceView Service, the high costs and long development cycles normally associated with network infrastructure development, device integration and deployment have been eliminated. The resulting solution enables service organizations to immediately reduce the cost of servicing and maintaining equipment located over widespread areas by using remote management capabilities.

The resulting solution enables service organizations to immediately reduce the cost of servicing and maintaining equipment located over widespread areas by using remote management capabilities.

emWare's DeviceView Service is a secure, hosted Remote Device Management system that allows companies to exchange information with their equipment anywhere in the world, while Lantronix' UDS Device Servers allow serial-based devices to be quickly and easily connected to IP-based Ethernet networks. In the combined solution, the UDS Device Servers communicate with the DeviceView Service to exchange device information, which is then stored in a database for later retrieval using DeviceView's Web-based enterprise service management application. Service technicians can access this information to determine the operational status of the remote equipment and take appropriate action if the equipment falls outside acceptable levels of operation. The DeviceView Service also monitors this information and can notify the appropriate personnel when an alert condition exists on their equipment.

The combined Lantronix and emWare solution delivers immediate and long-range benefits to organizations with service operations by cost-effectively accessing, monitoring and maintaining equipment in remote locations. Key capabilities include:

Allows service technicians in a central location to determine the status and operating conditions of remote equipment located anywhere in the world.
Predicts failures of remote equipment before they occur.
Reduces dispatch errors by diagnosing the exact problem and determining replacement parts requirements prior to dispatching a service technician.
Minimizes the number of service dispatches by allowing equipment to be repaired over the phone or Internet.
'This joint solution presents a tremendous opportunity for customers looking to make an immediate impact on their service costs,' said Marc Nussbaum, president and chief executive officer of Lantronix. 'emWare customers can leverage this robust yet cost-effective solution to connect their strategic devices and equipment to the network where they can be remotely managed.'

'emWare is very pleased to be able to offer this new solution to customers interested in making immediate improvements in the way they currently service and manage devices that are located in the field' said Michael D. Nelson, CEO and co-founder of emWare, Inc. 'By integrating our DeviceView Service with Lantronix' industry-leading device connectivity technology, nowhere will you find a more solid or affordable solution for servicing your remote equipment.'

To reduce the barriers common to deploying an enterprise-level Remote Device Management system, emWare is offering customers its 90-Day Pilot Program for a limited time. The 90-Day Pilot Program includes 90 days of access to the DeviceView Service; protocol conversion services for a customer's specific protocol; ten Lantronix UDS Device Servers; and the capability to send and receive messages to and from the customer's equipment or devices. The pilot environment is provided to the customer within two weeks of receipt of the protocol specification, and costs $5,000 USD. Post-pilot connection fees range from $3-$5 per device, per month to manage remote equipment and devices.

emWare makes it fast, easy and affordable to add remote device management capabilities to electronic devices, helping companies be more competitive by delivering a new generation of smart products that increase profits, productivity and customer satisfaction. emWare founded the ETI Alliance, a group of leading technology and service companies that are extending the Internet to everyday devices. Established in May 1996, emWare is a private company with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah and an office in Munich, Germany. For more information about emWare please visit www.emware.com
