Heidelberg. The forthcoming Eurescom Summit 2003 in Heidelberg will present the latest R&D advances in user-focused broadband services. Under the title 'Evolution of Broadband Services', experts from major European, Asian, and American ICT companies will discuss from 29th September until 1st October how broadband services can satisfy user needs and succeed in the market.

Conference organiser Eurescom has placed particular emphasis on highlighting user aspects from a European perspective and presenting European R&D results. However, the most renowned speaker at the event will be a non-European who succeeded in anticipating user needs: the 'father' of i-mode, Takeshi Natsuno from NTT DoCoMo, will give a keynote on the value chain strategy of i-mode, the most successful mobile multimedia service up to now.

The quality of the other presentations does not rank behind. In 14 partly parallel sessions the 42 speakers will present their latest insights on innovative broadband services, which have the potential to pave the way to the European vision of 'Broadband for all'. The service solutions presented range from telecare systems and smart home services to agent-based financial services and a new mobile tourist guide. Interworking and network issues related to broadband services will also be covered.

One of the many highlights of the conference will be the panel discussion on Tuesday, 30th September. Under the title 'Where is the broadband user?' moderator Jim Chalmers, editor-in-chief of Public Network Europe, will ask the high-ranking panelists provoking questions about user and market aspects of broadband services. The panel will consist of Takeshi Natsuno from NTT DoCoMo, Leonardo Chiariglione from Telecom Italia, the 'father' of MPEG, Roberto Parodi, Executive Vice President Technological Innovation at Telecom Italia Mobile, Spyros Konidaris, special adviser in the Directorate-General 'Information Society' of the European Commission, and Christopher Wardale from NEC representing the Open Mobile Alliance.
