EURESCOM SUMMIT FOCUSES ON NEW TELECOM NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES & THEIR GLOBAL BUSINESS ASPECTS

Heidelberg. Under the title 'Powerful Networks for Profitable Services', the Eurescom Summit 2002 in Heidelberg focuses on innovative network technologies and their commercial potential. From 21st to 24th October, international experts from leading telecom and IT companies will present the latest advances in optical networking, access networks, Next Generation Networks, traffic engineering, and many other areas of network technology. Together with the participants from business and R&D units of international companies, the speakers will discuss the evolution of telecom networks and services.

For Dr. Claudio Carrelli, Director of Eurescom, one of the central themes of the conference is how new technologies can give more bandwidth to the end user. 'We need more bandwidth in the fixed and mobile access networks to offer faster and more attractive services,' postulates Dr. Carrelli. 'There is plenty of bandwidth in the core networks, and we have to find innovative ways to increase the bandwidth in the access networks,' he explains.

The conference is organised by Eurescom, the European telecoms research institute, and VDE, the German Association for Electrical, Electronics and Information Technologies.
