EURESCOM OFFERS EUROPEAN DATABASE ON USAGE OF INFORMATION & COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

The EURESCOM project P903 'ICT uses in everyday life' provides a deeper understanding of how users respond to current and new ICTs. It explains private use and non-use of the Internet and mobile services. This has been done through a combination of socio-demographic, behavioural, attitudinal, and life-style factors.

The heart of the project is a cross-national household survey performed in nine European countries during October to December 2000. A random sample of more than 9,000 households were included in the survey. The foundation for the design of the questionnaire was provided by a series of 36 focus group interviews in six countries, which were conducted before the survey. These focus groups included non-users, Internet users, mobile telephone users, and users of both Internet and mobile telephones.

The main result is a database package containing a short manual on how to use the database, the basic SPSS database, the HTML-code book and the questionnaire package with the questionnaire in all the languages used in the survey. This database package is relevant for analysts who want to do further analysis, going beyond the more general analysis conducted within the P903 project.

EURESCOM offers to organisations, companies and academia the opportunity to utilise the P903 Quantitative Survey Data and associated materials of this comprehensive project.
