EURESCOM SUMMIT 2002 WILL PRESENT POWERFUL NETWORK SOLUTIONS

At the EURESCOM Summit on 'Powerful networks for profitable services' taking place on 21 to 24 October 2002 in Heidelberg, researchers from major telecoms players will show how important the underlying networks are for running successful and profitable telecommunication services.

Networks are often taken for granted, as users do not see them and should actually not be aware of their existence. Only if an advanced service is flaky because the networks cannot provide the required speed and support features, people complain about quality of service and performance. Or if a major cable is dug up and traffic gets disrupted, people start discussing things like resilience, protection and restoration in the network.

Porsche fan David Kennedy, chairman of the technical programme committee, puts it simply: 'Advanced telecommunications services need powerful networks as fast cars need good roads'. The conference will focus on advanced network issues, emerging network services and architectures. To include the business issues, it will also address application services, terminals, users and business cases that cover the network dimension. It will bring together the technology research community, telecommunications services and products experts as well as leading telecom business personalities to share ideas and develop a common vision.

The conference is organised by EURESCOM, Europe's leading organisation for telecommunications research. Nine major organisations and fora like DSL Forum, ETNO, ETSI, IPv6 Forum, IST, NGNi, OIF, OMG and the UMTS Forum support the event.
