LEADING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO CHOOSE QUALIFIED STUDENT WINNERS
25 October 2005 - Fieldbus Foundation

The Fieldbus Foundation today announced the 2005 awards for the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Educational Scholarships. The schools receiving scholarships this year include STC (Brielle, The Netherlands), Lee College (Baytown, Texas, USA), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and Singapore Polytechnic (Singapore).

The James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund honors the memory of James (Jim) O. Gray, long-time Fieldbus Foundation supporter, and friend and colleague to many in the automation industry, who passed away in 2002.

Jim Gray was employed by Invensys/Foxboro for 25 years as sales and marketing manager. In addition to being very active within the Fieldbus Foundation from its inception, he held the positions of: secretary of the Board of Directors, member of the Executive Committee, and member of the U.S. Marketing Committee.

A perpetual $250,000 endowment fund is being created for educational scholarships, which will provide annual awards of up to $1,000. These scholarships will be awarded by participating educational institutions to students around the world seeking a career in the industrial automation industry.

Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney acknowledged the support for the scholarship fund by automation industry members, and said that the participating schools play a vital role in ensuring the program's success. 'Our educational sponsors are as global as our technology. Facilities such as STC, Lee College, SAIT and Singapore Polytechnic are responsible for training the control and instrumentation professionals of the future. Each school is highly regarded in its own right, and is well-suited to choosing a qualified recipient for our annual scholarship,' said Timoney.

He added, 'Through the scholarship program, Jim Gray's goal of keeping the automation industry strong by enabling the education of tomorrow's technicians and engineers will be realized around the world.'

Foundation members, and those interested in the progress of the automation industry, are encouraged to participate in the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund.
