MAJOR FOUNDATION FIELDBUS TECHNOLOGY GATHERING TO BE HELD IN CALGARY
16 May 2005 - Fieldbus Foundation

The Fieldbus Foundation today announced that its End User Council, Western Canada meeting and workshop, to be held Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10, 2005, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, will be highlighted by a welcoming reception featuring keynote addresses by two recognized process industry leaders: Irene Lewis, president and CEO, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology; and John Myer, vice president, in-situ, Suncor Energy Inc.

Irene Lewis arrived at SAIT, a leading Canadian institute of advanced technology, in 1998 with a distinguished educational background spanning 40 years, in three provinces and two continents. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta and also sits on several provincial advisory committees such as the Alberta Economic Development Authority Board of Management and its Labour Force Committee.

John Myer is responsible for Suncor's In-Situ capital investments, volumes and operating costs. His division consists of multi-disciplined development, operations, maintenance and drilling teams. The lead asset for the group is the Firebag field, a 10 billion barrel resource developed through leading edge technologies such as steam assisted gravity drainage.

The Fieldbus Foundation EUC conference, co-sponsored by SAIT and held at its facility in Calgary, will enable local and international FOUNDATION fieldbus experts, together with end users from across Canada, to share their experiences. Tabletop exhibits showcasing vendors' FOUNDATION fieldbus products and services will also be on display.

Scheduled end user presentation topics include: developing an integrated fieldbus architecture for Canadian Natural Resources' Horizon Oil Sands project; and the methodology used by Nexen, Inc., to work with two owner-operated companies and two engineering firms to implement FOUNDATION fieldbus.

On Thursday, June 9, the Fieldbus Foundation and SAIT will present a half-day, 'ala carte style' workshop covering a choice of fieldbus-related topics. Other activities include a presentation on FOUNDATION fieldbus economics, laboratory tours and tabletop exhibits. The day's program will conclude with a welcoming reception.

Activities on Friday, June 10, include a panel discussion consisting of leading fieldbus experts and end users who will discuss their experiences with FOUNDATION technology. Tabletop exhibits and end user presentations will also be offered.
