LEADING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IS THE FIRST TO PROVIDE AWARD IN EUROPE
23 February 2005 - Fieldbus Foundation
| The Fieldbus Foundation, conducting its 2005 General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, today announced that Shipping & Transport College, Brielle, The Netherlands, a leading European educational institution for process manufacturing, has awarded its first $1,000 scholarship from the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund. |
The James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund honors the memory of James (Jim) O. Gray, a long-time Fieldbus Foundation supporter, and friend and colleague to many in the automation industry, who passed away in 2002. The goal of the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship program is to create a perpetual $250,000 endowment fund for educational scholarships, which will provide annual awards of up to $1,000. These scholarships are awarded to students around the world interested in the industrial automation industry. The inaugural recipient of the STC scholarship award is Martin Remis, 22, of Spijkenisse, the Netherlands. Remis will graduate from STC this year with a degree in Operational Technologies, and is the institution's leading student in the field of Measurement and Control. Bareld Bruining, Fieldbus Coordinator for STC, said, 'We are pleased to provide our first award under the James O. Gray Scholarship program to Martin Remis. Martin is a very deserving individual, and he exemplifies the dedication, hard work and technical knowledge we encourage in all of our students.' Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney congratulated STC Brielle on its participation in the scholarship program. He said, 'STC Brielle is the first European school to receive an award from the James O. Gray Scholarship fund. STC Brielle is at the forefront of FOUNDATION fieldbus training and education in Europe, and has played a key role in the acceptance of our technology by industry in the region.' Employed by Foxboro (now an Invensys unit) for 25 years as sales and marketing manager, Jim Gray was very active within the Fieldbus Foundation from its inception. He held the positions of: secretary of the foundation, member of the Executive Committee, and member of the U.S. marketing committee. Foundation members, and those interested in the progress of the automation industry, are encouraged to participate in the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund. For information on the various levels of support and more detail on the scholarship program, please contact Maggie Carlson, Fieldbus Foundation, at 512.794.8890, ext. 21, or visit www.fieldbus.org/scholarship. The Shipping and Transport College in Rotterdam is a vital and inextricable part of the shipping, transport and process industry sector, and for this reason, it has been officially recognized by the Netherlands Ministry for Education, Culture and Science as the only vocational school for shipping, transport and industrial operational technologies. STC Brielle, part of STC, offers educational and training programs for operational and management functions in the process industry. In Brielle, STC has established a state-of-the-art education environment for young people who become process operators, measurement and control (maintenance) technicians, and analyzer technicians. In 1999, STC Brielle started a project in which FOUNDATION fieldbus was introduced in an educational organization in Europe for the first time. STC Brielle is now officially recognized by the Fieldbus Foundation as the European training facility for FOUNDATION technology. STC Brielle is highly appreciated by the process industry and is recognized as the source of a wealth of information and knowledge for training its pupils and students. The college prepares its students for safely and operational process-related jobs.
