23 February 2005 - Fieldbus Foundation

The Fieldbus Foundation, conducting its 2005 General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, today announced that its has added two regional FOUNDATION fieldbus training sites in response to rapid adoption of the technology throughout major global industrial markets. The new certified fieldbus training facilities include Yanshan Simulation Training Center (operated by Sinopec Corp.) in Beijing, China, and Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, USA.

In addition to the Yanshan and Tri-State University sites, certified fieldbus training is offered at Waseda University, Waseda, Japan; Shipping & Transport College, Brielle, The Netherlands; Lee College Fieldbus Center, Baytown, TX, USA; and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

FOUNDATION fieldbus is an all-digital, two-way communications system that interconnects field equipment on a single network. An enabling technology, it supports a true distributed automation architecture, and is intended for use in mission-critical environments where the proper transfer and handling of data, and control loop integrity, are essential.

With FOUNDATION fieldbus, users realize significant operational improvements and business benefits. These include: reduced downtime, greater manufacturing flexibility, reduced process variability, improved asset utilization, lower maintenance costs, higher quality products, improved safety, and enhanced regulatory compliance.

According to Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney, the need to reduce operating expensesand capital expenses and improve plant asset management, is driving end user demand for fieldbus training.

'Industrial manufacturers recognize that FOUNDATION fieldbus is a plant automation solution that helps improve their business performance,' said Timoney. 'Due to growing adoption of this technology, leading educational institutions around the world are seeking to offer certified fieldbus instruction. The addition of two more regional training sites shows how the Fieldbus Foundation and its members are partnering with the academic and industrial communities to enable the implementation of fieldbus-based controls.'

Timoney added, 'For end users, regional training is recognized as a distinct value in all of the high demand areas we now serve. Our partner training centers demonstrate their leadership by bringing fieldbus courses to their local areas.'
