Moog Inc. announced today that it has received a contract from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. for primary flight controls on the System Development and Demonstration phase of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. The order, with a value of more than $113 million, calls for delivery of hardware from 2004 through 2007. Production will begin in Moog's fiscal 2003. Moog is partnered on this program with Parker Hannifin to jointly provide the Electro-Hydrostatic Actuation System that will control the aircraft's major flight surfaces including the flaperons, rudders, and horizontal tails. The Navy's version of the aircraft will also include controls for the ailerons. Of the total contract value, Moog's portion of revenue will be approximately $57 million. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program is the principal focus of the U.S. Department of Defense's initiative to define cost-effective, next-generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marines, and U.S. allies. Current plans call for delivery of the first F-35 to the armed forces in 2008. The JSF program is expected to result in the delivery of over 3,000 aircraft. The single-engine F-35 will be manufactured in three versions: a conventional takeoff and landing variant for the U.S. Air Force, an aircraft carrier version for the U.S. Navy, and a short-takeoff/vertical landing version for the U.S. Marine Corps, the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., a business area of Lockheed Martin Corp., is developing the F-35 along with principal partners Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems, as well as overseas countries including the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. 'We're delighted to have the opportunity to work on this important new aircraft,' said R.T. Brady, Chairman and CEO. Moog Inc. is a worldwide manufacturer of precision control components and systems. Moog's high-performance actuation products control military and commercial aircraft, satellites and space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles and automated industrial machinery.
