BEST FLUID POWER PRODUCT OF THE YEAR AWARD IS WON BY MOOG
09 January 2002 - Moog Controls

Moog Inc. announced today that Design News has named Moog's new digital interface servovalve, developed by its German company, as the best fluid power product of 2001. A wide variety of machine manufacturers in industries like die-casting and injection molding will be able to use the servovalve's more precise control, improved axis coordination, and faster response time to advance their system architecture. The improvement is analogous to a move from mainframe computing to networked personal computers.

Moog Inc. announced today that Design News has named Moog's new digital interface servovalve, developed by its German company, as the best fluid power product of 2001.

A wide variety of machine manufacturers in industries like die-casting and injection molding will be able to use the servovalve's more precise control, improved axis coordination, and faster response time to advance their system architecture. The improvement is analogous to a move from mainframe computing to networked personal computers.

'The notion of decentralized control and fieldbus communications is becoming an embraced system architecture across process industries,' said Dr. Hagen Schempf, Senior Systems Scientist, Carnegie Mellon University, and one of the competition's judges. 'The design of the valve is made to be temperature and vibration-resistant, while still maintaining its limited mechanical size. Moog's digital interface valve is a step into the future of smart and networked actuation and sensing systems.'

In addition to Dr. Schempf, the panel of judges were: Dick Miller, Technology Consultant, from Andover, MA; Michael Ruane, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering – Photonics Center, Boston University, and Douglas Stamps, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of Evansville, Illinois.
