Moog Inc. announced today that CAF, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. of Beasain, Spain, has awarded Moog's German subsidiary a long- term contract for train tilting actuation systems with a total value of up to $20 million. CAF is one of the world's leading manufacturers in the international railroad industry, supplying U.S., European, Asian and South American transportation systems. Sixty-five percent of CAF's revenues are from exports including suburban, high-speed, and long-distance trains. Moog's electromechanical systems for the contract will be comprised of actuators and associated power and control electronics. The initial order calls for 14 systems to be delivered beginning in February of 2001. Subsequent systems will follow-on through the year 2004 and could total up to 500. In 1997, Moog developed the first electromechanical in-line train tilt actuator in the world. Improvements to aging transportation infrastructures as well as development of new rail systems give this market significant potential. 'This contract is a perfect example of our ability to address complex technical challenges for a demanding customer,' said Philip H. Hubbell, Vice President of Contracts and Pricing. 'Vibration, extreme temperature variations, huge force outputs and extensive duty cycles make this commercial application more like a military specification. It called for our highest level of engineering talent and makes maximum use of our global capabilities.' Moog Inc. is a worldwide manufacturer of precision control components and systems. Moog's high-performance actuation products control military and commercial aircraft, satellites and space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles and automated industrial machinery.
