GE FANUC CONTROLLERS ASSIST FLAGSHIP TRAINING LTD AND THE MOD WITH PROCESS TRAINING COURSES
12 January 2005 - GE Fanuc Automation CNC Europe SA

GE Fanuc 90Ô-30 controllers with VersaMaxÔ distributed I/O linked to Feedback Instruments' Industrial Fault-Finding Process Control Rigs are being used in training programmes run by the Ministry of Defence, in conjunction with Flagship Training Limited. Based at HMS SULTAN, Gosport, these courses have been developed for engineers in the Armed Forces, but where spare capacity exists, are also open to engineering companies wishing to increase their expertise in the understanding and trouble-shooting of industrial process control systems.

The three Feedback 34-250 Industrial Process Trainers installed at HMS SULTAN are attached to six 90-30 controllers and three GE Fanuc VersaMax units, which are used for distributed control of I/O. Any PLC can connect to any I/O allowing complete flexibility for the instructor to allocate simulators to students as they become available. This allows students to develop and test their programs before connecting to the actual process simulator, giving a very cost effective solution. The complete rig enables students not only to learn the principles of process control and how to maintain them, but also how to trace simple and complex faults systematically. The additional control provided by connecting the GE Fanuc 90-30s and VersaMax I/O to the Process Trainers has enabled the MoD to extend its offering to include PLC programming and problem-solving in its courses.

Feedback Instruments manufactures engineering training equipment, and a wide range of portable E-learning materials, for education and industry. The Feedback Process Trainer is a bench-mounted process rig. The process involves filling a header tank with water and then cycling the water level between a set upper and lower limit, whilst simultaneously creating a demand from the header tank into a sump tank via two solenoid control valves in two separate paths. Pulse flow meters measure the flow rate created by a pump, and proportional level control sensors provide feedback on the water level in the header tank. More information on Feedback Instruments products can be found at www.fbk.com and for Flagship Training at www.flagshiptraining.co.uk

In 1996 Flagship Training signed a 15 year agreement with the UK Ministry of Defence to enter into a unique partnering arrangement with the Royal Navy's Recruiting and Training Agency, and in doing so ushered in an exciting new era in naval, industrial and management training. This agreement will increase training opportunities for non-Royal Navy students within the Royal Navy training organisation. Flagship markets Royal Navy training expertise and courses to overseas navies, related naval markets and to UK industry as a whole. Any training purchased through Flagship is delivered either by Royal Navy personnel, MoD Civilian Instructor Officers or Flagship instructors working to Royal Navy standards. Every aspect of training, from course design to delivery, is subject to an internationally proven quality control system which has been in use and continually refined in all Royal Navy training establishments since the 1970s.
