Echternach, Luxembourg – GE Fanuc Automation has introduced an ultra-compact version of its successful Series 0i CNCs to meet increased demand for low-cost, automated control of entry-level machine tools with up to 4 axes, such as machining centres, milling machines, lathes, grinders and punch presses. The new GE Fanuc Series 0i-MODEL C and Series 0i Mate-MODEL C CNCs are compatible with the existing Series 0i-MODEL B and Series 0i Mate-MODEL B, which have earned a reputation in the market as CNCs focusing on excellent 'price/performance ratios'. The MODEL Cs integrate the CNC into the LCD display unit. The depth of the complete unit is just 70mm, making it ideal for automation of compact machine tools. PC memory and LAN cards can be inserted into a PCMCIA slot in the front panel of the LCD. Memory cards enhance ease-of-use by enabling NC programs, and parameter and tool compensation settings, to be uploaded or downloaded. Alarm and operation histories, which are logged in the CNCs, can also be retrieved easily via a memory card. When the CNC is connected to a PC via a LAN card, the servo motors can be adjusted to match the machine tool. This is made possible by using a software tool, GE Fanuc SERVO, running on the PC. Series 0i-MODEL C is best suited to the control of 4-axis machining centres, milling machines, lathes, grinders and punch presses. Other applications include milling machines with 3 basic axes plus an additional axis, and 2 spindle lathes which can then offer extended system applications and thus higher performance and productivity. The Series 0i Mate-MODEL C CNC will control up to 3 axes. The LCD displays are offered as 10.4' colour, 8.4' colour and 7.2' monochrome. The Series 0i-MODEL C can be used with GE Fanuc αis and βis Series AC servo motors and αi and βi Series AC spindle motors, and the Series 0i Mate-MODEL C with GE Fanuc βis Series AC servo motors and βi Series AC spindle motors. Conversational operator software, Manual Guide i, will be available for the 10.4' colour LCD display. This simplifies programming on the shopfloor, offering rapid development of part programs with guidance all on one screen. 3D simulation of the machining process helps to reduce the time for part program checking and virtually eliminates errors.
