Echternach, Luxembourg 'Joint Success' cooperation between Fritz Studer AG, of Thun in Switzerland, and GE Fanuc has worked according to this motto since their relationship began in 1989. In 1990, the first GE Fanuc CNC control system was sold to Studer and eight years later the 1000th CNC was celebrated. In the past few years, the joint road to success has followed an even more pronounced upturn: at the beginning of 2004, the delivery of the 3000th CNC to Thun was reached an indication of the high growth rate. Over the years, a close, trusting partnership has been built up between the world market leader for CNC and drive technology and the market leader in cylindrical grinding. Studer equips the majority of its machines with GE Fanuc control systems. Control systems from the Series 21i-TB and 16i-TB CNCs are currently being used. To increase benefits to the end user, GE Fanuc is continually developing new functions for its control systems, which are also tailored to meet the requirements of grinding operations. Certain basic characteristics of both partners' products also contribute greatly to the success. GE Fanuc, for example, is well known for the exceptional reliability of its control systems, as well as the upwards compatibility of its products. GE Fanuc also offers a world-wide service network and, in many locations, local application support. Fritz Studer AG has over 90 years of experience in the development and manufacture of precision cylindrical grinding machines for universal, external and internal grinding. Studer's competence and practical experience in high-speed and punch grinding deserve a special mention. The highlights of the machines include fully automatic grinding systems (including loaders, measuring systems and special clamping systems from different manufacturers), as well as machine beds cast in Granitan, pioneer work in the production of mineral casts. Around 100 members of staff are involved in research and development to optimise machines and software and to find user-specific solutions to problems.
