NEW SERIES OF LARGE-TORQUE, HIGH-ACCELERATION DESIGN-IN SERVO MOTORS
22 October 2003 - GE Fanuc Automation CNC Europe SA

GE Fanuc Automation is offering a new series of synchronous servo motors for customers to design-in to their machine tools. The use of strong rare-earth magnets enables the motors to produce large torques at low speeds with high angular accelerations. This makes them suitable for applications such as rotary tables or an additional axis on machining centres, for turret lathes, and for gear-cutting machines. Their optimised design ensures low torque ripples.

The GE Fanuc synchronous built-in AC Servo Motors of the D is Series produce maximum torques of between 85Nm and 3000Nm depending on the model. Versions are available for use at 200V or for use at 400V. The use of strong, rare-earth magnets embedded in the rotor produce the large torques. This allows angular accelerations of the motors of over 100,000 degrees/s² and maximum speeds of between 75 revs/min and 400 revs/min.

The 400V version of the top-of-the-range D3000/150is produces a continuous torque of 1200Nm at speeds of up to 150 revs/min when it is liquid cooled. The stator with moulded coil can be fitted with a cooling jacket. Torques of 3000Nm can be produced during intermittent operation at up to 150 revs/min. The overall depth of the drive system is just 160mm and the external diameter, including cooling jacket, is 565mm.

The D is Series servo motors are driven by GE Fanuc αis servo amplifiers which can be connected to the latest i Series CNC via a high speed fibre optic FSSB (FANUC Serial Servo Bus). They are ideal for customers wishing to design-in servo motors to machining centres, turret lathes and gear cutting machines.
