NEW, COMPACT DESIGN-IN SPINDLE MOTORS OFFER HIGHER TORQUE AND LOW VIBRATION
22 October 2003 - GE Fanuc Automation CNC Europe SA

GE Fanuc Automation has introduced a new series of synchronous built-in spindle motors. The motors are ideal for customers to design-in to large lathes and gear-cutting machines that require a high torque at low speeds. The company has also enhanced its series of asynchronous built-in spindle motors to offer increased torque, power and maximum speeds in more compact dimensions. GE Fanuc built-in spindle motors are ideal for attaining high speeds, high accuracy and low vibration.

The GE Fanuc synchronous built-in Spindle Motors of the βis Series offers a range of power outputs from 3kW to 30kW, torques from 29Nm to 427Nm. The use of strong, rare-earth magnets has produced large toques at low speeds within compact dimensions, making them particularly suitable for turning and gear cutting applications. In-built motors in this series use standard GE Fanuc αi Series Servo Amplifiers to which they are connected via an SSM Sub Module to enhance the speed and power. Maximum speeds of 3000 revs/min or 6000 revs/min are offered. All motors in this series require liquid cooling.

New models of GE Fanuc's asynchronous bult-in Spindle Motors of the αiB Series have been added. The application of optimised coil forming designs has led to a reduction in length of many models. At the same time, they offer increased power, increased torque or higher maximum speeds. Output power ratings extend from 1.5kW up to 50kW. They are ideal for customers wishing to design-in spindle motors to a wide range of small machine tools, including lathes and machining centres.
