GE Fanuc has added a new, more powerful motion control module offering single point programming and Local Logic support to its Series 90-30 family of PLC Modules. The new DSM 314 motion module can control up to four analogue servos or two GE Fanuc digital servos plus one analogue servo. The DSM314 features a built-in processor capable of running user-generated Local Logic programs completely independently of the main PLC program. The Local Logic has a fast 2ms update rate which greatly speeds up read/write access to local DSM I/O and allows execution of time critical logic, independent of the PLC scan rate. Local Logic provides full support for maths functions and provides high-speed digital output control synchronous with the axis motion control. Single point programming allows all motion and local logic programs to be created with GE Fanuc's latest VersaPro programming software which provides faster, simpler and more integrated programming. In addition, all programs and configuration data are stored in the main PLC processor and automatically downloaded via the backplane to the motion module on power-up. This makes it easy to replace modules for troubleshooting or repair at any time without the need for any reconfiguration or set-up. It also allows multiple DSOs to share the same motion and Local Logic programs and configuration data. The DSM 314's other powerful features also include support for high speed position capture, flexible axis configurations, enhanced I/O assignments and follower mode enhancements plus enhanced parameter resolution and ranges. It can be used with a wide range of GE Fanuc Series 90-30 PLCs including CPU350, 352, 360, 363 and 364 types. The DSM 314 joins GE Fanuc's existing low cost DSM302 motion controller which has now been upgraded to support both analogue as well as digital servos, with up to 2 analogue or 2 digital channels, or 1 analogue and 1 digital channel.
