FINISHED GOODS PLANT REBUILT IN RECORD TIME

NNE has just completed the reconstruction of Novo Nordisk's pharmaceutical finished goods plant in Gentofte, Denmark. The reconstruction took place during the summer holiday period, and in record time, to minimise the period, when the production had to be extraordinarily interrupted.

The summer reconstruction activity is the culmination of a 3-year reconstruction project intended to double the filling capacity in the production of the haemophilia medicine NovoSeven.

The completed reconstruction is a considerable and very important part of the project. The work included total renovation of a 700 m? production area, including walls, ceilings, floors, ventilation, and production equipment. The major part of the production area (class B and C) has been renovated and the logistics prepared for future capacity requirements.

As a part of the summer reconstruction, the freeze dryer capacity has been considerably expanded, including the installation of a freeze dryer weighing 30 tons.

Denmark's biggest mobile crane hoisted the freeze dryer into place.

The reconstruction was completed in just 10 weeks, and as a result of this the production could start as specified in the plans for the production unit.

'We only had ten weeks to complete the reconstruction and therefore everything was planned down to the smallest detail before we started work. An experienced project team, close cooperation with the client, and the fact that everybody knew their assignments - all these factors meant that the 120 craftsmen and 50 engineers working in shifts met their scheduled milestones', explains Bent A. Andersen, project manager of the 250 million Danish kroner reconstruction project.
