NNE CONSTRUCTS SMALLPOX VACCINE PLANT FOR BAVARIAN NORDIC
30 March 2004 - NNE A/S

NNE enters into agreement with Bavarian Nordic A/S for constructing production facilities on Bavarian Nordic's recently acquired site in Kvistgård, Denmark. The production plant will be used for making a vaccine against smallpox and other vaccines against infectious diseases, and the agreement implies that NNE will construct the new production facilities for the vaccine production in clean rooms with full GMP compliance. The total size of the clean rooms of class B and C is approximately 1,100 m2.

The vaccine production must adhere to cGMP rules for product safety as well as current biotechnological safety rules for containment of the production for purposes of protecting the environment.

In connection with the construction, NNE will carry out a cleaning validation with a view to documenting eg, that the rooms contain no leftovers from earlier production.

NNE also helps Bavarian Nordic industrialising its production processes and generally advises Bavarian Nordic on GMP aspects.

NNE will also reconstruct an administration and laboratory building; this task will include a new design and fitting of approx 400 m2 laboratory space, and assisting Bavarian Nordic with preparation of regulatory approvals for an assessment of the production's impact on the environment - the so-called EIA reports.

After the EIA report has been approved, the construction will be completed in only eight months on the site so that the first actual vaccine production can start during the third quarter of 2005, after completion of the required test productions (validation series).
