AWARD RECOGNISES SIEMENS' ROLE IN HELPING UK PUBLIC HEALTHCARE SECTOR ORGANISATIONS
21 October 2005 - Siemens UK

Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting firm, has awarded Siemens Medical Solutions the '2005 Business Development Strategy Leadership award' in recognition of the approach it has brought to medical imaging services with the creation of its Global Solutions business unit.

The business unit has proven an exceptional success for those healthcare providers that have taken advantage of the managed equipment services that Global Solutions offers.

The award attributes Global Solutions' success to three key differentiators. Firstly, Siemens' highly consultative and interactive approach to product development has lead to ever increasing client acceptance of what are consistently and clinically, the right products at the right time.

Secondly, an innovative pricing model facilitates continuous focus on long and short-term customer profitability goals. It means if Siemens' Managed Service does not meet targets related to uptime and clinical workflow, the hospital pays correspondingly less to Siemens, providing a direct financial incentive to consistently maintain high levels of service.

Thirdly, a strategic focus on clinical rather than technological performance. For example, integrating customer feedback, Siemens enhanced the clinical validity of their CT scanners by improving the modality's temporal and special resolution, as opposed to increasing the technological spec by incorporating a greater number of detector rows.

These differentiators fully reflect the strategy that Siemens Medical Solutions has pursued to become a real provider of solutions as opposed to products.

Frost & Sullivan identified the seven private finance initiative managed service contracts awarded to Siemens by the UK's National Health Service as acknowledgement of the company's unrivalled commitment to excellence in both technological innovation and customer attention.

Global Solutions' role in the PFI contracts was commended for fulfilling customer expectations in terms of equipment uptime, infection rate and reduction of medical errors, and also consulting radiology departments on the re-engineering of their entire imaging workflow paradigm.

'Siemens Medical Solutions' business unit has played a significant role in helping the public healthcare sector achieve the efficiency gains so vital for ensuring sustained capital investment under the PFI scheme,' said Frost & Sullivan.
