EMCORE CORPORATION AND MYSTICOM EXTEND VERY SHORT REACH (VSR) 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET TO 500 METERS ON MULTIMODE FIBRE
03 December 2003 - Mysticom
| Mysticom announced superior performance and extended data transmission distances during interoperability testing with EMCORE's SmartLinkTM QTR3400 10G Media Converter. The tests confirmed that Mysticom's MY3124, a XAUI-to-XAUI Retiming Transceiver, and EMCORE's SmartLink together provide a cost-effective 10 Gigabit Ethernet solution for wiring closet applications and connections within Central Office (CO) and data center type environments. |
In the interoperability test utilizing standard 50/125 micron multimode fiber, the link was operated at a distance of 500 meters with the Enhanced Mode enabled on the MY3124 and at 400 meters in standard 8b/10b mode. A variety of data patterns were transmitted, including the stressful IEEE Draft P802.3ae/D4.1 Continuous Random Pattern (CRPAT). All results were achieved with better than 10-15 Bit Error Rate (BER). 'We are very pleased with the results of the interoperability testing that has been conducted with Mysticom,' said Al Yuen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for EMCORE's Fiber Optics Division. 'EMCORE continues to develop high performance, low-cost optical modules and components for the very short reach market. We are committed to providing cost effective product solutions for the data center and central office interconnect market by leveraging our internally produced 850nm VCSELs and 1310nm DFB lasers.' 'Mysticom is committed to bringing new capabilities and performance levels to accelerate the deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet,' said Wiren Perera, Mysticom's vice president of marketing. 'Our partnership with EMCORE has allowed us to deliver a high-performance, cost effective solution with extended reach for 10Gbps VSR optical interconnections utilizing multimode fiber.' About Emcore's SmartLink EMCORE's SmartLink patent-protected media converter solution uses fiber optics to extend the current copper socket throughout the data center or central office to up to 300 meters. EMCORE's SmartLink technology is the socket compatible with existing copper cable interfaces and is compliant with the industry standards for Infiniband, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel. Designed for rack-to-rack applications of one to 300 meters, SmartLink is capable of carrying an aggregate of 10 Gbps by adding up to four lanes of 3.125 Gbps, 12.5 Gbps total with encoding. It requires a single 3.3 Volt power supply that uses less than one Watt. About Emcore EMCORE Corporation offers a versatile portfolio of compound semiconductor products for the rapidly expanding broadband and wireless communications markets and the solid-state lighting industry. The company's integrated solutions philosophy embodies state-of-the-art technology, material science expertise, and a shared vision of our customer's goals and objectives to be leaders and pioneers in the rapidly growing communications market. EMCORE's solutions include: optical components for fiber-to-the-curb/home/business, cable television, and high speed data and telecommunications; solar cells, solar panels and fiberoptic satellite links for global satellite communications; and electronic materials for high bandwidth communications systems, such as Internet access and wireless telephones.
