LAIPAC SELECTS SARANTEL GPS ANTENNA FOR NEW GSM/GPRS S-911 PERSONAL LOCATOR DEVICE
30 November 2004 - Sarantel Limited

Sarantel, the leading innovator in the design and manufacture of proprietary miniature antennas for portable and wireless devices, has been chosen by Laipac Technology to supply its GeoHelix Global Positioning System antenna in a new portable tracking device.

The Laipac S-911 Personal Locator combines state-of-the-art technology with high-performance GPS capability, in response to the demand for increased personal safety devices. The S-911 is ideal for parents who wish to track children's location and outdoor adventurers and hikers who require an extra layer of personal security. It utilises the Sarantel GPS antenna to ensure consistently good reception even in the most harsh and inhospitable environments.

The S-911 is a portable locator device and has three levels of emergency reporting. Firstly, it can be used as an emergency mobile phone with speed dialling for two-way voice communication. Secondly, it has the ability to silently call 911 for assistance using a personalised voice recording to report location and time and send SMS messages to a control centre. Lastly it has an alarm button that connects users to a call centre, which has the ability to pinpoint the user and take immediate action. The S-911 also has a unique geofence feature, which can be used to report to authority or control centre when the person is out of a pre-defined area.

People tracking and asset monitoring devices require faultless and precise GPS positioning technology; the Sarantel GPS antenna ensures that the S-911 offers robust GPS reception at all times; guarantees that the S-911 can work in close proximity to the body because of its unique properties; and enables the user to be located to within 5 metres of their location.

"Receiving a GPS signal in-doors, in built-up and sometimes remote environments can be difficult, this is why when designing the S-911 personal locator we needed to guarantee that its performance wouldn't deteriorate, no matter what the conditions. That's why we chose the Sarantel antenna. Its omni-directional capability ensures that it works in many orientations, which is crucial if users are in a difficult or dangerous situation and are unable to position the device in clear view of the sky," says Diego Lai, CEO of Laipac.

David Wither, CEO at Sarantel says: "Personal safety is a key issue in today's society and we are seeing extraordinarily high demand for our GPS antennas to ensure reliable and predictable performance. By embedding the Sarantel antenna, Laipac have created a flexible yet robust personal tracking device for the growing personal protection market."

Laipac will be producing S-911 for 2 GSM/GPRS frequency band, 900/1800Mhz and 850/1900Mhz and will be sold in the following markets: USA, Canada, China, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Europe.

Laipac Technology Inc. is a leading GPS technology company located in Ontario Canada, currently with branch offices in Spain, Mexico and Taiwan.
