| Processing speed, low power consumption, and wide operating temperature are desirable yet conflicting goals for industrial computers. WinSystems' solves this dilemma with their new EBC-C3, a highly integrated, full-featured, single board computer. This 733 MHz, EBX-sized board, offers a wide operational temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. The board runs Windows? CE.NET, Windows?XP embedded, Linux and other x86-compatible operating systems such as VxWorks and QNX. Together, this provides a processor-intensive solution for demanding applications in heavy manufacturing, COTS/military, transportation, pipeline, networking, and machine control. |
The EBC-C3 is based upon the 733 MHz VIA (Taipei, Taiwan) fanless Eden ESP7000 processor. The VIA Eden processor is a true 6th generation, x86 architecture with a x86 native instruction set and integrated L1/L2 cache for high-performance. The ESP7000 consumes only 6 watts of Maximum Thermal Design Power and nearly 1 watt of typical power when running at a clock speed of 733 MHz. The result is that the processor can run full speed at extended temperatures without a fan. Another unique feature of the ESP7000 is that it contains the VIA Padlock? Data encryption engine to enhance the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of electronic data for secure communication systems. The EBC-C3 contains a rich mix of memory and I/O functions. The board supports up to 512 MB of PC133 SDRAM in a standard 168-pin socket. Also Type I or II Compact Flash cards are supported with up to 1 GB of solid state storage. A separate 32-pin socket accepts an M-Systems (Fremont, CA) DiskOnChip? flash device, SRAM or EPROM. Dual Ultra DMA 33/66/100 hard disk interfaces and a 3.5'/5.25' floppy disk controller support rotational media. Other features include a high-performance, 4X AGP flat panel/CRT video controller with onboard LVDS for digital flat panel displays. Two, Intel 82551ER Ethernet controllers support 10/100 Mbps high-speed data transfers for networking and communications. Four RS-232 serial asynchronous serial ports are provided, two of which also support RS-422/485 levels. Finally, the board contains a root hub and four USB channels for even more serial I/O. The EBC-C3 includes a 48-channel parallel I/O controller, LPT interface, keyboard controller, mouse, real-time clock, AC97 audio and other core logic to make the board PC/AT compatible. Plus, it has both a 16-bit PC/104 and PC/104-Plus connector to support additional expansion modules such as 802.11b wireless, modem, frame grabber, or other specialty I/O. The EBC-C3 is an EBX-compatible board that measures 5.75' x 8.0' (146mm x 203mm). It requires only +5 volts and typically draws 3.1 Amps with 256Mbytes of SDRAM.

About: WinSystems
Founded in 1982, we manufacture and distribute embedded computers for use in industrial applications. Our products include embedded PC-compatible single board computers, memory boards, input/output (I/O) and enclosures based upon the STD Bus and PC/104 Bus standard architecture. We offer three product families: Embedded PCs. We design both busless embedded single board computers (SBCs) with PC/104 and PC/104-Plus expansion and computers with a hybrid of both STD Bus and PC/104 Bus support. These units are optimized for low cost and high functionality by incorporating all of the basic functions of a computer on a single circuit card. These PC/104, PC/104-Plus and STD Bus expandable PCs embed the PC architecture in space and power sensitive industrial applications. We standardize this hardware and software around the broadly supported PC architecture to save the embedded systems designers substantial development costs and risks plus shorten their time-to-market. STD Bus. As the approved IEEE-961 standard microcomputer bus, the STD Bus is popular worldwide. The STD Bus has a number of advantages over other bus architectures used in industrial applications such as the PC Bus and Multibus. Its simple interface, smaller card size (4.5” x 6.5”); solid, nearly square peripheral cards, and strong card mounts, tolerate shock and vibrations making the STD Bus ideal for rugged industrial enviroments. PC/104 Bus. The PC/104 standard defines a compact, self-stacking, modular form-factor bus for embedding IBM PC and PC/AT compatible system functions within embedded microcomputer applications. The PC/104 modules' small size (3.6” x 3.8”) and low power requirements (typically 1-2 watts per module) make them ideally suited to embedded control applications. Distribution: Direct sales force. Markets: Orginal Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and systems integrators selling to industrial, manufacturing, transportation, communication and military industries, or other markets that require electronic bus products with rugged durability, performance and a long system life span. |
