They can even be combined with other devices on the same cable, saving costs in machine wiring and installation time. This makes use of the low cost ASi fieldbus even more attractive by integrating safety and status indicating lights.

This new range of Patlite signal towers has 50 or 70mm diameter bodies and LED lamps, which achieve a lifetime greater than 100,000 hours. There is also a wall-mounted indicator, which has a depth of only 37.5mm. All models are available with three colours, red, amber and green, also an optional 90dB audible alarm. As current consumption is low, typically 50mA or less, the signal towers can be operated off a single ASi cable provided the total demand for the system is less than 2A.

This means that the single ASi cable is providing the 24V power supply and handling the signalling. For larger scale networks, there are also signal tower models suitable that use a second ASi line for 24V auxiliary power supply. Incorporating ASi technology into signal towers gives the machine builder a great simplification of his electrical design with resulting cost savings.
