Emerson Process Management announced that the nuclear repair and pressure vessel repair and installation programs performed by its Instrument & Valve Services Center in Columbia, S.C. have been recertified by the National Board of Pressure Vessel Inspectors. Certification includes in-house and field repair of American Society of Mechanical Engineers "S" stamp desuperheaters and ASME Section III code pressure boundary parts.

With the recertification, Emerson is awarded continued use of the "NR" stamp for nuclear repairs for the next three-year cycle. The services center first received certification in October 2002. The National Board "NR" certification enables both in-house and field repair of boundary parts for "N" stamp valves, including sliding stem, rotary and butterfly valves.

The services center was also awarded continued use of "R" stamp certification for pressure vessel repairs and installation. The company first received certification in February 2002. "R" Stamp certification qualifies the services center to perform repair services and assembly. Field repairs and alterations to Contek "S" Stamp desuperheaters can be completed at any U.S. customer location by the Instrument & Valve Columbia services center team. The qualification also includes authorization for ANSI B31.1 pipe fabrication and repair welding.

The Instrument and Valve Services Center in Columbia also holds NPT certification. This nuclear parts certification is an ASME Boiler and Pressure Valve Code (B&PVC) Section III designation for a supplier that's qualified to supply pressure boundary parts for control valves manufactured in accordance with ASME B&PVC Section III code.

"With NR and R Stamp certification, the Instrument & Valve Services Center in Columbia offers a complete package for repair of equipment originally manufactured to stringent ASME Section III and Section VIII requirements," said Mike McDowell, quality assurance/environmental safety and health manager for Instrument & Valves Services business. "In addition to repair, we also provide new replacement parts. We are pleased to be one of the few facilities nationwide to offer certified repair capabilities to our customers."
